Judy Glantzman’s “Skull and Bones” (2013), from her solo show at Betty Cuningham Gallery (through May 11), which I reviewed in one sentence last week.
Lovely collage by Yashua Klos from DODGEgallery’s new group show, Bigger Than Shadows (through December 22).
A pair of portrait collages in Dustin Yellin’s officially open studio-exhibition space The Intercourse.
A few weeks ago I visited the massive new art center that collage artist Dustin Yellin is building in Red Hook. While parts of it are still under construction, much of the Civil War-era building is already being used as a gallery for works like this pair of mixed-media in glass figures by Yellin.
I’m continually impressed by Sharon Lawless’s collages, which I first encountered last summer when I visited artMRKT Hamptons. She’s in a new exhibition, Cut & Paste, curated by RHV Fine Art, the South Park Slope gallery that represents her, and on view at Muriel Guepin Gallery (through April 15).
During another visit to Wallspace Gallery, I discovered more of Daniel Gordon’s superb photos of sculptural collages made from pixelated photos in the group show The Big Toe (through March 24). This is from his “Thirty One Days” series (2009).
Another piece from the Santi Moix show at Paul Kasmin Gallery, Santi Moix on Huckleberry Finn: Watercolors and Wall Drawings (through February 11). This lovely watercolor and collage work is “Fishing Day (Huck & Tom)” (2011).
I unexpectedly found Stephen Sollins’s exhibition of quilted envelope collages, Piecework (through March 4), the most compelling of Smack Mellon’s winter exhibitions.
I’ve been following Rashaad Newsome’s work since being blown away by his video in Greater New York 2010 at MoMA PS1. His new exhibition at Marlborough Gallery in Chelsea, Herald (through December 3), is filled with incredible collages. I especially enjoyed the simultaneously phallic and vaginal shape of this one, “What’s Beef” (2011), which is among the smaller and subtler pieces on view.
